Why Go Solar?

By installing a solar and battery system, you’ll reduce the amount of electricity you need to buy from the grid — and you can even sell any excess energy back to it. Taken together, these savings could lower your annual electricity bills by an average of 86%.

Even before the energy crisis, electricity prices had been rising by an average of 5.5% each year since 2000. While no one can say for certain what lies ahead, prices are expected to stay high until at least the late 2030s. A solar system helps shield you from these rising energy costs and could boost your property’s value by up to £16,701.

Your household’s carbon footprint will also shrink — by around 950kg a year. That’s roughly the same as a return flight from London to New York. Over the lifespan of your solar panels, that’s the equivalent of avoiding 30 flights. So, you won’t just be saving money — you’ll be doing your part for the planet too.

How do solar panels work?

Each Solar Panel is made up of small Photovoltaic (PV) cells which absorb photons emitted from the sun. This generates free electricity through the photovoltaic effect for use in your home. The electricity generated can also be stored in a battery and released when you need it.

Get Payback in as Little as Six Years

With a Hale Heating And Renewables solar and battery system, the savings on your electricity bills and income from exporting energy to the grid mean you can recover your initial investment over time.

Even before the energy crisis, electricity prices in the UK had risen by an average of 5.5% per year since 2000. While the future is uncertain, this example assumes that the same rate of inflation continues.

Over 25 years of system ownership, you could save £36,364 and pay back the cost in as little as six years — after that, everything you save is pure profit.

  • This example is based on a typical three-bedroom family home in UK, using 3,500kWh of electricity per year, with a 5.28kWp solar panel system and a 4kWh battery.
  • The system costs £7,490 and generates 5,342kWh of electricity annually, with 26% used in the home and 74% exported to the grid.
  • Savings are based on the E.ON Next Drive import tariff and an export rate of 15p/kWh.
  • Electricity price changes are based on ONS Consumer Price Inflation time series (MM23), showing an average increase of 5.5% per year between 2000 and 2020.
  • Savings have been calculated using the System Advisory Model (SAM).
  • The system would also reduce carbon emissions by 1.4 tonnes of CO₂ per year — equivalent to 29 long-haul flights over 25 years.

FAQ’s

Some of the most frequent questions we get asked.

Most domestic Solar Panel installations take no more than a day with minimum disruption. Typically, the scaffolding will be erected a couple of days before the Solar PV installation team arrive. We will then mount the panels on the roof and install the inverter, batteries and EV charger if ordered. Finally carrying out the internal wiring.

Solar PV panels alone will not give you electricity 24 hours a day as they only produce electricity in daylight hours. You would need a battery system as well as Solar PV panels to be able to come off-grid.

A typical residential solar panel system costs between £4,000 and £10,000 before tax credits or incentives. Costs vary based on system size, panel type, and additional components like batteries.

Solar panels are nearly maintenance-free, typically requiring only occasional cleaning and periodic inspections to ensure optimal performance. They are designed to last 25-30 years with minimal upkeep.
